Rainblog: The Secret to Succeeding at Anything -
A few years back, I used to hang out on a semi-regular basis in a fake-Irish bar (very fake-Irish; it was actually French) with a good friend. On most nights, as the foam settled on the second pint of Guinness, the conversation would turn to a theme that she used to summarize as “Why do we suck?”

Guys. I’ve been playing Final Fantasy Tactics, listening to the Joe Rogan Experience, and having major philosophical realizations this evening.
So I’ve been listening to Thich Nhat Hanh lectures about mindfulness. There’s really something to that. I’ve been applying it hard. Next time you’re upset, focus on your breathing. As strongly as you would focus on a playing a sport or a dope video game. Like nothing else in the world exists. I promise it’ll help.
The thing that I’ve been struggling with lately is anxiety. Whether it’s about mad cow disease (my diet is now completely cow product free), BPA in plastic containers, or just the future of our world/country, there’s always something. And even if I lived 30 years ago, it would be the Cold War. And if I lived 70 years ago, it’d be polio. If I lived 150 years ago, it’d be dying from influenza. There’s no shortage of sources of anxiety, if your brain looks for them.
The trick is, and let me be very, very, very clear, if you do not suffer from a chemical imbalance or some other medical condition, you can make it stop. Not completely of course, but you can stop your mind from letting the seed of anxiety grow into a panic attack. You just have to look reality in the face. The idea that’s really been helping me to stop my mind from going out of control is that anxiety (not fear) is a learned state. It’s not necessary.
Try some meditation. I just read an Alan Watts book that put forth the idea that meditation isn’t really about shutting off your ego, at first. Just sit and analyze the thoughts that come into your brain and try to focus on truly experiencing your senses.
Also, I just want to say that you’re not weak or a bad person if you can’t stop your brain in this way. I just thought it might provide hope for someone who’s having the same problem. I’ve had an unbelievable change in my life, and I wanted to share what’s helped me.
tl;dr focus your mind on what’s happening right now. or positivity. either or.
I figured it out! The key is to keep the rhythm super constant (duh)
argh i can’t get the last part of the verse phrase in “from the morning” to sound right. damn you, nick drake for being such a badass fingerpicker.

I love when Greg Proops says “Mittens” Romney.
